Wafer-type butterfly valves are widely utilized; by combining various valve materials and actuation methods, they can be adapted to suit a diverse range of media and operating conditions. A wafer-type butterfly valve is characterized by its wafer-style connection method. The valve's disc is positioned diametrically within the pipeline; situated within the cylindrical bore of the valve body, the disc rotates around a central axis through an angle ranging from 0° to 90°. This rotational mechanism allows for flow regulation, with the valve reaching its maximum opening when the disc rotates to the 90° position. Wafer-type butterfly valves are categorized into "soft-sealed" and "hard-sealed" types, depending on the material used for the sealing ring. Soft-sealed wafer butterfly valves offer excellent sealing performance; however, due to the inherent limitations of their sealing materials, they are unsuitable for use in pipelines conveying high-temperature or high-pressure media. Conversely, hard-sealed wafer butterfly valveswhich utilize metal alloys for their sealing componentsdemonstrate superior resistance to high temperatures and high pressures, though their sealing performance may be slightly less effective than that of soft-sealed valves.

Common actuation methods for wafer-type butterfly valves include manual levers, worm gears, pneumatic actuators, and electric actuators. Manual levers and worm gears constitute manual actuation methods, while pneumatic and electric actuators represent automatic actuation methods; the latter are typically employed in operating environments where manual operation is either impractical or poses safety risks.
