Grooved butterfly valves are mainly used in fire-fighting pipelines, while wafer-type butterfly valves are used in general pipelines. The differences between the two are as follows:

I. Different Designations

1. Grooved Butterfly Valve: When fully open, the thickness of the butterfly plate creates significant resistance as the medium flows through the valve body. Therefore, the pressure drop across the valve is very small, resulting in excellent flow control characteristics.

2. Wafer Butterfly Valve: Installed along the pipe diameter. Within the cylindrical channel of the valve body, the disc-shaped butterfly plate rotates around its axis, with a rotation angle of 0°-90°. When rotated to 90°, the valve is fully open.

II. Different Structures

1. Grooved Butterfly Valve: The sealing structure uses a composite valve seat made of PTFE and synthetic rubber. The valve's elasticity is still provided by the synthetic rubber. The low coefficient of friction, wear resistance, and aging resistance of PTFE improve the butterfly valve's service life.

2. Wafer Butterfly Valve: Simple structure, small size, and light weight. It consists of only a few parts. Furthermore, it can be quickly opened and closed by rotating 90°, making operation simple. This valve also has excellent fluid control characteristics.

III. Different Features

1. Grooved Butterfly Valve: The connection between the butterfly plate and the valve stem uses a pinless structure to overcome potential internal leakage points. The outer circumference of the butterfly plate is spherical, improving sealing performance and extending the valve's service life. It remains leak-free after more than 50,000 pressurized opening and closing cycles. The seals are replaceable, ensuring reliable sealing and achieving bidirectional sealing.

2. Wafer Butterfly Valve: When the butterfly valve is in the fully open position, the thickness of the butterfly plate acts as resistance as the medium flows through the valve body. Therefore, the pressure drop generated by the valve is very small, resulting in excellent flow control characteristics. Butterfly valves have two sealing types: resilient seal and metal seal. For resilient seal valves, the sealing ring can be embedded in the valve body or attached to the outer periphery of the butterfly plate.
